Customization
Free appearance editing, a visual race illusion, a free gender swap, an underwear wardrobe, and the custom race roster.
Status: LIVE — the Transmogrification Customize panel,
/underwear, and the login customization queue are enabled. No NPC and no gold are required.
At a glance
- Open with
/customizeor/customizer. The panel is part of the Transmogrification addon. - Edit appearance for free: skin tone, skin style, face, eye color, hair style, hair color, facial features, and Worgen tail.
- Free gender swap. It has a short 2.5-second identity cooldown, not a gold cost.
- Visual race illusion. Appear as any of the 18 playable races while keeping your real race, racials, faction, and quests.
- Race illusion is cosmetic only. It does not change your class, faction, racial abilities, or progression.
- Underwear wardrobe:
/underwearchooses top and bottom base layers from owned or collected appearances. - Free name, gender, and appearance at character selection via Customize at Login. This does not change your race.
- Custom races are fixed by server data. High Elves, Void Elves, Worgen, and Broken are Alliance; Goblins, Dark Iron Dwarves, Tuskarr, and Eredar are Horde.
- All 18 playable races can use all 10 Wrath classes.
- No dedicated NPC. You do not need a barber or a customization vendor.
How to use

- Press Swap Gender for a free gender change. Wait for the 2.5-second identity cooldown before another identity change.

/underwearto choose a top and bottom. You must own the item or have its appearance collected. - To change your name, gender, and appearance at character selection, press Customize at Login, then log out to the character list.

- Close the panel and play. Appearance and illusion changes are server-authoritative and persist across sessions.
Appearance options
| Option | What it changes | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Skin Tone | Base skin color | Includes Death Knight skin colors; shift-click for themed skins |
| Skin Style | Natural skin or tattoo/hand theme | Independent of eye color where supported |
| Face | Face shape | Limited to faces legal for the race, gender, and skin |
| Eye Color | Eye color or glow | Hidden if the race has only one option |
| Hair Style | Hair model | Legal styles for race and gender |
| Hair Color | Hair color | Colors supported by the selected style |
| Facial Features | Beards, horns, earrings, tusks, markings, and similar | Race-specific |
| Tail | Worgen tail | Only shown where the race has tail options |
Some races combine options. For example, certain elf and Draenei skins pair a skin tone with eye or tattoo variants. The panel only offers combinations that the server considers valid.
Race illusion
The Race Illusion dropdown lists the 18 playable races. Your current native race is excluded.
- Keeps your real race. Racials, class, faction, quests, reputations, and progression do not change.
- Changes how you look to yourself and other players. The illusion is server-backed, not a local model edit.
- Free to change. It shares the 2.5-second identity cooldown with gender swap.
- Removed by shapeshifts and temporary disguises. The illusion returns when the form or disguise ends.
- Tuskarr illusion hides helm, cloak, and boots visually. The items remain equipped and their stats still apply.
- Not a race change. You cannot use it to change factions, learn another race’s racials, or access another faction’s quests.
Supported illusion races
Human, Orc, Dwarf, Night Elf, Undead, Tauren, Gnome, Troll, Goblin, Blood Elf, Draenei, Broken, Tuskarr, Worgen, Void Elf, Dark Iron Dwarf, High Elf, and Eredar.
Custom races and classes
All 18 playable races can be every Wrath class: Death Knight, Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior.
| Custom race | Race ID | Faction | Starting zone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goblin | 9 | Horde | Valley of Trials |
| Broken | 14 | Alliance | Ammen Vale |
| Tuskarr | 17 | Horde | Camp Narache / Red Cloud Mesa |
| Worgen | 22 | Alliance | Shadowglen |
| Void Elf | 23 | Alliance | Shadowglen |
| Dark Iron Dwarf | 24 | Horde | Valley of Trials |
| High Elf | 25 | Alliance | Northshire Valley |
| Eredar | 26 | Horde | Valley of Trials |
Faction is fixed. A race illusion does not move you to another faction. A High Elf is Alliance; a Dark Iron Dwarf is Horde; a Broken is Alliance; an Eredar is Horde. See 02 — Starting experience for guides and starter pets.
Underwear wardrobe
/underwear opens the base-layer wardrobe.
- Two slots: top and bottom.
- Owned or collected: you can use an item you own or an appearance already in your collection.
- Visual only: base layers do not replace gear, add stats, or count as equipment.
- Seen by other addon users. Players without the Transmogrification addon see the default base layers.
- Tuskarr body type: helm, cloak, and boots are hidden visually while the Tuskarr illusion is active. Their stats still apply.
- No gold cost. Changing the wardrobe is free.
Free customization at login
The Customize at Login button queues a free character-selection customization for your next login.
- Change name, gender, and appearance for free.
- Race and class do not change.
- Original race only. The race illusion is separate and remains as you left it.
- Log out to character selection. The option is applied there, not in the world.
- No NPC and no gold.
- One queued customization is consumed when you use it. It is not an unlimited in-world rename.

NPC references
There is no customization NPC. The system is fully addon-driven and server-authoritative. Standard barbers may still exist in cities, but they are not required and do not control the custom options.
Tips
- Do not pay for a barber.
/customizeis free. - Shift-click the skin arrow. Themed skins are easy to miss if you only use normal clicks.
- Race illusion is not a race change. Your faction, racials, and quests stay exactly as they were.
- Expect the illusion to drop in forms. Shapeshifts and disguises hide it by design.
- Tuskarr hides three armor slots visually. Your helm, cloak, and boots still give stats.
- Use Customize at Login for a name change. It is free, but it happens at the character list, not in the world.
- Wait out the 2.5-second cooldown. Spamming gender or illusion changes will be rejected while the cooldown runs.
- Underwear is visible only to addon users. Do not expect every player to see it.
- Check your custom race’s faction before grouping. Dark Iron Dwarves and Eredar are Horde here.
- You cannot change your real race. Only the illusion is available.
- The preview is authoritative. If an option is missing, it is not legal for that race, gender, or skin combination.

Admin note
The customizer is implemented in mod-transmog and is server-authoritative through the addon bridge prefix DinkleTmog; it is not a client-only model edit. The client UI is transmogrification_customizer.lua, version 5 (minimum 4), with a 2.5-second identity-swap cooldown. Race illusions are stored in custom_transmogrification_race_illusion; the server rebuilds the display, reapplies appearance, and resends reputations. Underwear choices are stored under the wxl-underwear player setting and are limited to item ranges 335000–335145, 335200–335279, 365200–365229, 365240–365271, 365280–365287, and 365300–365342; the entry parity selects top/bottom and the display must be entry + 100000. Do not grant arbitrary underwear entries. The login path sets AT_LOGIN_CUSTOMIZE and is deliberately self-scoped; the GM .character customize command retains an arbitrary-target path and must not be exposed as a player command. The client compositor is patched for a 1024 character atlas with componentTextureLevel "10"; setting it to "9" reverts to 512 if the 32-bit client has memory pressure. No customizer config toggle exists in transmog.conf.
